About Vast Aquascaping

Luke Wang is the founder and owner of Vast Aquascaping, a steadily growing aquascaping and maintenance business. Growing up in Sacramento, Luke faux-began his aquarium hobby with a typical family 10 gallon of convict cichlids. As is common, he understood nothing about it, and was uninterested in aquariums during his adolescence. He later studied art at California College of the Arts, initially pursuing fashion design before graduating with a degree in jewelry/metal arts. His final art showcase involved aquariums, scaped as loose biotopes representing global conflict regions, finally drawing him into the hobby and sparking a passion for aquariums that has driven him ever since.
Luke worked at Albany Aquarium in the Bay Area, which was especially known for its impressive plant selection. During this time, he gained invaluable hands-on experience— changing incalculable gallons of water and medicating thousands of fish. This level of experience was far beyond what a hobbyist at his age could gain. This expertise in the aquarium industry was the reason he soon began offering tank servicing and eventually founded Vast Aquascaping.

After moving back to Sacramento he continues to travel to the Bay Area several times a month to service his clients and attend monthly meetings of other Aquarium Societies in his role as Speaker Coordinator. This gives him the opportunity to network with prominent figures in the aquarium world, allowing him to exchange ideas with other people who share his obsession.

Plants have remained a passion in his life even as keeping fish slowly transformed from hobby to paycheck. His hobby remains the collecting and growing of aquatic plants, which has slowly begun to encompass terrestrial plants as well, particularly the many tiny orchids. He has recently made a few custom setups in order to merge the plants and fish, and continues to find ways to make fishkeeping interesting for himself.
